Experiential Learning Experiential learning allows students the opportunity to learn through action for the purpose of career exploration and/or gaining valuable career-preparatory experience. Through experiential learning, students may communicate with professionals working in a career field of interest, spend time within the work environment, and participate in project work to build the skills and experience employers find valuable to job seekers. Why participate in experiential learning activities? Exploration: When narrowing down your choice of major, nothing can supplement your reading and research like experiential learning. Interacting with individuals within your field of interest, spending time in the work environment, and gaining hands-on experience can help you make an informed decision. Networking: When participating in experiential learning opportunities, each individual you meet has the potential to become a new addition to your professional network. Because the majority of all internships and jobs are discovered through networking, the individuals you meet can become valuable resources! Experience: Employers seek individuals with education AND experience. Taking an active role in experiential learning activities will provide both field-specific and transferable skills which put your education into practice.
